[Fifth Day Of MM]

My hand phone gave the alarm to wake up. I woke up and went to bath. However, my friends were still sleeping. I woke them up, and they said they did not want to wake up so early. Ok sure! Lol.

As we walked out of the room, our hearts sank when we all realized this is the last day of MM and we will be retuning this afternoon. However, the disappointment mingled with happiness of going home. We went down for breakfast, and after breakfast, we went down to the conference room for team building activities.

The instructor, Mr. Gabriel Chan, mistook me for a basketball player when I walked in, as I was a bit tall. Hmm, maybe I can take his suggestion… Soon, the activities started. The story line began. “An investor wanted to transport goods across the river. He wants a special bridge that can reach the opposite end of the river and back again on its own momentum”. We were supposed to prove it is possible by constructing a bridge made of straws. The banks of the river were marked, and the river was not very wide. Soon, we decided on what to construct. We will make a spiral shaped bridge, and the balloon that served as the goods will move across the river and back on its own momentum due to gravity.

We started work. I helped my friends construct the bridge, while others started on the support of the bridge. Just as we were working hard, a new task was issued. We were supposed to make a tower that is the tallest and look the most aesthetic. Half of us moved off to start work on the tower, which was also supposed to be made of straws. I continued on the bridge.

After I finished the bridge, I realized that the support was not ready yet. So, I moved to the other side and looked at the tower instead. It sure looked nice! We did not follow the method other groups used, which is making a straight line above into the sky. Our tower was round and very very stable. I am happy to see our tower looking to good. However, what bothered me is that we used too many straws on each layer and it will not be as tall as other group’s tower. Then I got an idea. Since we have such a stable base, why don’t we simply add to the towers height by using just one straw a layer! The tower will not fall due to our base! I started work on it.

“Timmmmmmmmmmes up!” shouted Mr. Gabriel Chan. I glanced at our tower. It definitely looked nice, but it was not as tall as other group’s. I tried to cram a few straws into the tower as a desperate attempt, but was stopped by my IC. We carried the tower off to the stage. I went back to look at my bridge. It looks complete. I wonder if it will work. My group IC gave a speech on our tower, and since we were the last group, the inspection of the bridge started.

They tested out each bridge to see if they worked. Group 10’s bridge worked like a charm. Soon, they came to our group. We rolled the balloon down. No! It got stuck! Thankfully they gave us a second chance, and this time it worked. However, they asked us to do it one last time to prove it really work. We stared at the balloon. And when it finally completed its journey, we heaved a sigh of relief.

After that, we played dog and bone. The difference is that the bone, was a ball, with diameter 1.5 meters. That’s BIGGER than me! However, it was light as it was made of plastic and filled with air. It was placed in the center, and three lines of defense were placed. Each line of defense contained 10 people. We can barge through them, or do anything to get pass. However, people who did actions considered violent will be expelled from the game. Here is when my skills learnt at my CCA comes into use. Hehehe…

We were supposed to bring the bone back to our territory. Our opponent dogs, four of them, stood behind our first line of defense. And with a whistle, the game started. I could not see properly as I had my glasses off. Suddenly, someone ran in front of me and tried to barge through. It will not be so easy! If he passes me, he will be free to reach the bone! I tripped him, and he fell onto me. Ouch.

We had fun throughout the game, though we lost. The opponents’ dogs were too strong and fast. But never mind! Its just a game lol. After that, we went back to our rooms to pack up. My friend and I were wrestling, and were a bit late due to our fun. I quickly bought snacks and boarded the coach. This will be the last look at our resort. Sob sob.

The bus journey will take up to five hours, and during it, we watched the movie “Law by
law” which was hilarious. After our lunch, we continued our journey. I ate my snacks on the way and chatted with my friends. The customs were a breeze due to my bio passport, which only required a scan. HAHA.

After we looked at the poster on Mas Salamat, we boarded the coach again. This time to our final destination—Raffles Institution. We thought we still had about an hour. I talked to my friends about computer games and everything. Suddenly, we all saw something that made us think that our eyes were playing tricks on us. RJC! Oh my god! The coach is FAST!

The bus turned into the parade square of RI. We carried all our stuff and went down to get our luggage. Finally, with a last glance at the coach, we moved on.

[Fourth Day Of MM]

“Oh my god!!!!” yelled Nigel. I woke up confused. Just when I was about to ask him what was his problem, the thing that caused the commotion became clear. The clock in front of me said seven thirty. I jumped up as if I was bitten by a snake. Snatching up my towel and change of clothes, I rushed into the bathroom.

We reached the place of breakfast at 7.50am. I loaded my plate and gobbled my food down. I had no time to savor the taste at all. After my rushed breakfast, I ran to the lobby, where the bus was waiting for us. Thankfully, we were on time. Our first destination was the royal museum. There we saw great sculptures and carvings. We took a few photos and I met some of my friends from other groups. We talked our way through the museum, and soon it was time for us to leave.

After that, we went to look at the traditional games. The games that attracted me were the top spinning and another game where we stamp our foot on a plank. Two stone like pebbles were placed under it, representing two players. Whoever’s stone broke is the loser. Top spinning was hard. My top kept landing on its side and refused to spin. According to the instructor, we can master it after one week. I definitely hope so! After that, we bought souvenirs from a stall. I bought a top. Most of my friends bought key chains in the shape of a top. I did not though, because I feel I have spent enough on the top already.

After we toured the plantations of Rubber and oil palm, we proceeded to the kampong village for lunch. We had chicken and vegetable. After lunch we even had dessert! We took a seat on the chairs provided, and waited for the event we came here for—the mock wedding. It soon started.

The music was thunderous, and through it, we experienced the kampong way of marriage.
After that, we went on to the salong homestay. The people in the village gave each of us a flower with a boiled egg attached to it. It was very pretty. Soon, we walked through the door of the people we are visiting. We walked through the house, and later interviewed the man living there.
After a group photo, we moved on. We walked back to the coach and boarded it. After a nap, we reached the hotel.

We went down for dinner, wearing our MM shirt. Some of us did not though, due to the fact that they were forgetful. Let me tell you a joke now. I forgot to wear it myself! HAHAHA! Aren’t you laughing your head off now? ZZZ. The dinner was superb. It consisted of chicken, spaghetti and all the nice food you can think of! I took a second serving and proceeded to the dessert. Sweet! There was pudding, cakes and ‘quey’. I enjoyed all of them.

Finally, the time we have all been waiting for came. The stage has already been set up. Light sticks were placed all around the stage, lighting it up. However, what we are really looking forward to were the performances all the groups had came up. We made use of the time left to rehearse the performance again. I only to say one line, but that was already good enough. Some of us have nothing to say!

Finally, our MCs stepped onto the stage and gave their opening speech. It was very informal and we all liked it that way. Soon, group one stepped onto the stage. We looked at them expectantly and waiting for them to show us what they produced. As we watched, all of us shared one thought—it is hard to win! If all the groups had skits like that, the chance of us winning will not be high!

However, we still enjoyed the performance. After group one ended, one of the MC, Danish, told us a joke. He asked, “There was a coconut tree and a monkey, a dog and superman. Who can get the banana first?” And to our lame surprise, the answer was, “There is no banana. It is a coconut tree.” …… Soon, the second group went up.

As groups went up and down, we were getting more and more worried about winning. Although theoretically we are not supposed to care about the positioning, how can we not want to win? In a frustrated attempt, our group IC came up with other ideas, which were rejected due to the lack of practice. There was one group with no skit. Instead, they came up with three cheers.
The cheers were creative and interesting. The moment has came. It was our turn. Group 11. We walked up the stage, with some of us trembling. As we moved through the three scenes, we got more confident every moment, and finally ending in our cheer. In our opinion, our group was the best. We did not know if it was everyone, our just us. All of us became restless. There was only one reason. The results are going to be revealed. The MCs made us frustrated by holding the answer back and asking who do we think is the best. Doubtlessly, the group that had 3 cheers won the best cheer prize. Sadly, we did not win anything. And guess our position! Second! Sob sob.

Finally, the party ended. Our group stayed behind to help clean the place as requested by our teacher in charge. As the saying goes, “The good will be repaid”. Soon, our reward came. The light sticks were taken off the stage, and we were free to take them. I chose a green one and went back to the hotel with my friends.

We were all exhausted that night, and after tips of 20 ringgit were collected, we went to sleep immediately.

[Third Day Of MM]

“Ringgggggggg!” went the alarm clock. It was now the third day of MM, and we knew that today shall be filled with fun too. We packed our luggage as we will be changing hotel today. When we went down to the lobby, it was raining heavily. After we loaded our luggage onto the trolley, some helpful guys wore their raincoat and helped our teacher load the luggage onto the coach.

After that, we went for breakfast. It consisted of toast, fried rice, potato and others. It was quite delicious, but some people didn’t like the vegetable as it did not look fresh. Thankfully, no one fell sick after eating it. Soon after breakfast, we climbed into our coach, waiting for the arrival of our destination—the deer land.

The trip was long. We spent most of our time on the coach sleeping, as we were still tired from yesterday’s activities. I drifted off to sleep. Suddenly, the tour guide gave us our wake up call. I felt only a few minutes passed, but it was actually two hours! How your mind can play tricks on you!

After spraying our bodies with insect repellent, we walked through the entrance of the deer land. Firstly, we saw a sun bear in a cage. We wanted to stop and look at it, but the tour guide rushed us on, saying that we can look at it later. The place smelled a little, but we did not mind it. After walking along the path for a while, we saw what we came here for. The deers.

We walked forward and touched the deer. They were harmless, according to the guide, but still some of us were afraid to pat them. I think this was because they were bigger than us. The people there brought us yam stripes and asked us to feed the deers with them. I took a piece, and before I could offer it, a deer stood on its hind legs and snatched it from me! What a surprise!

After taking pictures with the deer, we left and looked at other animals. There were monkeys, chickens and many many more. One scary animal was the ostrich. Their legs were strong, and although they were in cages, we were still a bit scared of them. We fed them leaves, and they ate it happily.

We walked out of the entrance, and to our surprise, the coach was gone! Then the teachers told us that we will be going for our broad walk, which is a stone’s throw away. We walked there and found out that the planks were only about 15cm in width! One of my friend was scared, but went on nevertheless. Mr. Lim, our group teacher, helped another teacher carry her handbag. How caring!

After we went through the broad walk, we arrived at the flying fox. We selected two group mates to go on it. What a fun experience! After we finished the flying fox, we boarded the coach and it took us to our next checkpoint—the elephant sanctuary.

After a short nap, we arrived and went down the coach. We walked on the sandy path and saw the elephants. They WERE humongous. We observed the workers there bath the elephants, and when one of the elephants shook its body, the worker slapped the elephant on the face. How daring! Teachers gave students tickets for the elephant ride, but sadly the tickets were given out in the blink of an eye, and I missed it. Never mind though! I can just watch from below.

We fed the elephants with fruits. They took it from our hands with its trunk, and sent it into its mouth. I had a glimpse of its tongue. It was as long as my arm and as wide as my stomach. That gave me a shock. A playful student picked up a full water melon from the basket and offered it to the elephant, thinking that it cannot eat it as it was too big. However, the elephant had its own ways. It stomped on the melon with its feet, and ate up the crushed pieces. How clever!

After the elephant ride we had our lunch. It was scrumptious. Then we had our interview with one of the elephant keepers. We asked him questions and he provided us with professional answers. We boarded the coach again, and the trip lasted all the way till seven thirty. The sky was dark and it was hard to see. We spent the time on the coach singing. Our own “Group eleven superstar”!

We arrived at Muaazam Shah for our dinner, and the food there was definitely great. I had two servings and three cups of drink. One of my friend accidentally knocked into another guy and that guy spilt bandung onto my friend’s shirt. His shirt turned red, and I teased him about it.

We reached our second hotel, the Lanjut resort at nine thirty. All of us were sleepy and tired, and soon after we got our room keys, we bathed and went straight to sleep.

[Second Day Of MM]

Today was a really fun-filled day too (: We had breakfast at 7.30am this morning and there was quite a variety of food including sausages, fried noodles, orange juice and also coffee to perk us up. We departed from the resort at 8.30am, bound for the Batik Village.

After a short introduction to the complexities of batik-painting like teaching us the different steps of batik making, we started painting our own masterpieces and it soon became apparent that everyone was enjoying themselves. We had six different colors to choose from and several of our cluster mates could be seen putting in a lot of effort as they tried to mix the colors to find the colors that they lacked (one example was green). After we finally finished with coloring everything, we left it on the streets to dry. The great variety of colors entertained our eyes. We put in loads of effort and were definitely proud of ourselves. The tour guide said that our attitude was commendable and his teacher used to tell him that the attitude, not the aptitude, determines the altitude of a person.

Later, we reached the beach. We were told to collect seashells. We found the toilets there to be dirty and could definitely do with a bit of cleaning. We walked along the beach, enjoying the scenery and the warm sunlight. However, most of the seashells on the seashore were either small or broken, which was a disappointment. But then again, through our efforts we finally found a few desirable seashells which were really beautiful.

There were crabs on the seashore too. We discovered a very big one, but someone accidentally stepped on it and killed it. We managed to take a few pictures of the crab. When we were putting our collection of shells together, we found out that someone actually had a shell with a hermit crab in it! The shell was spiral shaped and black in color. What a surprise!

We went back on to the coach, and were told that we would be going to the turtle sanctuary. At the turtle sanctuary, we knew more about the turtles’ babies (how they were born? In what conditions? ) and we got to see a few turtles and terrapins species. Although the guy who explained about the turtles wasn’t good in English, we could still understand and learn more about the turtles’ interesting facts.

Shortly after the visit to the turtle sanctuary, our JC seniors told us that we will be playing a game of ‘Dog and Bone’. We were tired but for the sake of our team, Whatever! We played with our hearts but eventually lost. This game allowed our cluster to bond as a team. We also learnt that teamwork and friendship are necessary in life. Without it you can’t do anything, as you don’t have any support.

Then, we had our lunch at a seafood restaurant. Although the wait for the food was long, we were patient and were soon rewarded with delicious food. Lunch was better than yesterday. The food was better and the condition where we were eating was also better. Our plates were clean at the end of lunch break. What a scrumptious meal! ( :

After that delightful meal, we were once again on our way to an agricultural place. There we were warmly greeted by many of the workers there and to our surprise there was once again another meal prepared for us! That definitely brightened up our spirits and we looked forward to the rest of the tour there. At least, we were quite content till we found out that we were to be the last group to tour most of the farm on a tram. However, our guide, kak su tried to set our mindset into a more positive tone by always saying, “Its okay, always save the best for last!” ( do you understand that? Because quite frankly I am not too sure how that really related to our situation) but it did get us looking onto the positive side of things and for that we really thank her. Some highlights of that tour would probably also be the inevitable mischief by our fellow Rafflesians. One particular example would be the scenario when one of us actually threw something at a bee’s hive which was really gargantuan relative to most bee hives I have seen in my life. That really stirred up a commotion. It was really cool!.... ummmm I mean awful for something like that to happen during our trip. It injected quite a bit of excitement but it did teach us a lesson of not to be so reckless and stupid. In the end, this whole tour was a very fruitful one.

After that, we took a journey home with our pilot, Mr. Zam. Our bus stopped at a supermarket but we decided not to alight as the resort was a few minutes away from the resort. We reached the resort first and we rested while waiting for dinner. Finally, dragging our exhausted bodies, we trudged of way to dinner.

[First Day Of MM]

The skies were blue and RI secondary 2 students carried their bag, with their slippers or sandals on, all the way to the hall. There we waited for the bus, which will take us on a wonderful journey, otherwise known as MM (:

The students were in havoc, and the ICs needed to take our files and notebooks. We were all excited for the MM trip. This is our first trip overseas as a cohort. Our group was the first to leave our alma mater. We were very enthuastic and were expecting many fun activities.

When we reached the Tuas checkpoint, we were in awe as we could pass through the immigration easily with the new passports. We are proud of how fast our country’s technology has progressed. However there was a long queue as most of the students do not have biometric passport and thus slowed down the journey. This shows that change leads to progress and it may be essential for survival. For example if there is a need for mass evacuation in Singapore, those with biometric passports could pass through easily. We learnt from our guide, Kak Su that the second link is called Tanjong Kupang in Malaysia.

After successfully passing both immigrations without any problems, we were finally on our way to our first stop known as the ‘Tea Dara’ . Before reaching our destination, we had a break at Lucky Garden where we bought snacks and foods. My friends and I actually spent more than 50 ringgit on chips! We learnt that we must be more prudent and save for the future. At the ‘Tea Dara’, we learnt a lot about making tea and the different type of tea. The guide told us about the processing and many more. However we could not see it with our own eyes as there was no processing on that day. Some of us felt that the the duration spent there could have been longer as we have travelled so far. Our friend Farhan , even dreamed about a Tea monster. It was quite funny indeed. Haha! LOL . ROFL. LOL !

After that, we went back to the coach and some of us were unhappy as we did not have our lunch yet and it is already four o’clock! We were exhausted and most of us slept on the coach. After about an hour, we finally reached the Pandan waterfalls where we received what we thought of for so long, our lunch! It consisted of fried rice, bee hoon, fried banana and many many more! I enjoyed the beef the most and even went for a second serving! After lunch, we went for a swim in the waterfall. It was surely enjoyable. Mr Sarkunnan, who checked the water for us, looked damn hot in the water! Those who didn’t went for a swim, played other games like ‘sepak takraw’. They too had fun.

Our last destination is the De Rhu Resort. Now we are writing this blog on a bed. Our roommates are bouncing on the bed. Haha. I think I am going to join them soon. Dinner was delicious, with the bbq chicken and prawns. Hmm. We are getting tired already. Zzzz////
We LOVE our hotel room!

It was a beautiful dayyyyy. Don’t let it get away.
